It was amazing! The 1st workshop was ATS101, basically going through all the families of movements within ATS, the cues, some variations, and the basics of troupe formations.
The second workshop was all about transitions and fades: how to cue them, how they work, etc.
I found that when it actually came to trying to lead I would freeze up, which is odd because in my solo dance I thrive on improv! I guess knowing that other dancers would have to follow my choices made it difficult.
The hafla itself was very fun, I was very nervous because I had never danced for other dancers before but overall it went very well. I got a lot of compliments on my costumes which was great and it looks like I’ll be involved with the location’s dance troupe in the future. I just hope those opportunities come to fruition soon!
My plan for my new belly dance costume, which I’m making from an uglyyyy gold lame dress from the 80’s I got at a swap/free market. I just need to make the channel for the elastic waist to be finished with the skirt, and I’m working on the pattern for the bra with scrap fabric, which will be reinforced with some bra cups from an old bra. I will be posting a step-by-step with photos sometime soon!
The black transparent areas will be black chiffon, and the opaque areas are beading. Any comments or suggestions?
